Description
The Akha are considered as a subgroup of the Hani, the latter being based in Yunnan province, China.
This Tibeto-burmese ethnic group is spread over Xishuangbanna (southern part of Yunnan), Myanmar, Laos and Thailand. They are around half a million people.
On this cd, the first four tracks were recorded in Ban Peeyer for the Akha New Year being celebrated by different villages at different times between end of December and beginning of January, according to the end of harvest.
The two woman are singing "shako": Akha melodies accapella with words belonging to ancient stories, poetry or new stories.
