Description

Bai people are roughly two millions living in Dali, Shaxi and Heqing regions, in the North part of Yunnan. During centuries, their culture and music have been influenced by Buddhism, Taoism and various Han music styles. Bai music can be separated into religious or entertainment music.
On this cd, you can listen to a "miaohui", a village festival, happening in Cai Cun village close to Dali Old Town, gathering hundreds of people going together to a local temple where traditional music ensemble are playing. String instruments, percussions and religious recitations...
The second and third part of this cd are rituals being organised for a new house inauguration (tracks 5 to 7) and for a post funeral ceremony (tracks 8 and 9), with percussions including cymbals, flute and "sanxian" (three string instrument) and a reed player.
