The Miao is one of the most important ethnic group of China with 9 million people subcategorized in 5 groups and 38 subgroups!
The Shui Miao are one of them, living in Shidong area, outside of Kali in Guizhou province.
The women you can listen to on this cd came to Dali to sell traditional clothes. The older woman is singing ancient tunes. They have a special singing technique - singing very loudly so as to be heard far away in the mountains - very different from other Miao subgroups.
