Description

The majority of people living in Mondolkiri province are Phnong, related to the Mnong ethnic group on the other side of the border, in Vietnam. They belong to the Mon-khmer family and are the first inhabitants of this area. With other ethnic groups of the area, they share a lot musically, especially the fascination for gong playing during animist ceremonies.
Nowadays they use 6 "cengs" (flat gongs) but also other instruments. On this cd, you can find a good range of various instruments that can be found in those communities which includes the pretty unique "mbouat", ancestor or the mouth organ found in many parts of South East Asia.
