Description

The Tampoons are an ethnic group living in the West and South of Ratanakiri province. They belong to the Mon Khmer family and are the first inhabitants of this area. Laurent Jeanneau guesses they have been under the cultural influence of the Jaraï with whom they share a lot musically, especially the fascination for gong playing in animist ceremonies, like all other mountain people in this part of South East Asia.
